As Westfield's Mayor, Scott Willis will work to expand and diversify our commercial tax base, invest in public safety, and create a community with low taxes and world-class services.
Westfield is no longer a small town. Our current population is just over 50,000, and the city has in its pipeline enough housing to grow to 70,000. With this rapid growth, we are facing unique and complex infrastructure and public safety challenges. Currently, 90% of our city’s tax revenue is coming from residential homes and apartment complexes. Keeping up with this growth, while keeping taxes low, will be extremely challenging moving forward.
We also need to think about what we want Westfield to look like 10, 20, or 30 years from now. Scott's vision is to create a city not just for us to enjoy now, but one that our children will want to come back to after college. One for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Scott's vision includes building and capitalizing on amenities around Grand Park. His vision also includes creating a vibrant downtown with shops, restaurants, and places to gather. Our city needs to keep our dollars and the dollars of tourists here in Westfield. We can accomplish this and still keep Westfield the unique place we’ve all come to love.
Westfield needs a mayor with the right background and leadership experience to get the job done. Scott's experience in corporate America building two small companies, coupled with his experience in the Marine Corps leading a battalion of over 1500 Marines with an operating budget of over 100 million dollars, gives him the right tools to hit the ground running on day one.
